From Hamburg to Barcelona

THE TRANSPORTATION OF A WOODEN GIRAFFE

NAVIS Schifffahrts- und Speditions-AG also ensures that children benefit from the services that are provided. A playground in Barcelona, for instance, was expecting to receive a giraffe – not a real one, but rather a wooden piece – made by a Hamburg-native artist. Despite the fact that the wooden giraffe was not an actual living animal, the transportation process was not an easy one.

PLENTY OF FUN

An artist from Hamburg created a three-meter-high wooden giraffe for a playground located in downtown Barcelona. NAVIS transported the three-meter-high giraffe to Barcelona by truck so that the visitors of the playground may enjoy this extraordinary toy. The transportation was troublesome due to the structure of the large wooden piece. The biggest challenge was to transport the giraffe in one piece – but, of course, NAVIS took on the challenge.

THE CHALLENGE

The three-meter-high giraffe was made out of olive wood in order to withstand heavy impacts. This material is weatherproof, very stable and thus offers a long-term playing experience.

The giraffe was designed and created out of two pieces of wood in Hamburg. Since it was not possible to assemble the giraffe in Barcelona, the piece was put together beforehand in Hamburg. As a consequence, our road carriers faced the huge challenge of transporting the extraordinary object from Hamburg to Barcelona (a distance of 1,800 kilometers) in one piece – obviously on time and undamaged.

AT FULL SPEED TO THE PLACE OF DELIVERY

Despite a distance of around 1,800 kilometers to overcome, the thought of bringing joy to the children motivated our staff members to deliver the wooden giraffe as soon as possible. The route led our trucking companies through Germany, France and the final stretch to Barcelona. The destination was reached following a traveling time of around 25 hours (excluding breaks). The outcome: Mission completed without any extraordinary incidents.

Mission accomplished

IT’S TIME TO PLAY

After arriving in Barcelona, the wooden giraffe was professionally unloaded by the design engineers and subsequently mounted onto the playground by the constructers as requested. The fact that it was transported as one individual piece made the installation process much quicker. As a result, the children had almost immediate access to the giraffe. Fun guaranteed.
